We, the People, Are the Rightful Masters of Both Congress and the Courts

Denver, Colorado, Monday, January 25, 2010

“We, the people, are the rightful masters of both congress and the courts – not to overthrow the constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the constitution” – Abraham Lincoln

In America today – we have 1 party rule – with 2 gangs of frauds. The American people realize this and that is why a revolution has ensued.

On Tuesday, 26-Jan-2010, RestoreOurColorado will present to the Office of the Secretary of State a Petition of Recall form for approval of its form as per the requirements of the 21st Article of the state Constitution. More

Has Forbes Gone Psychotic or Taken the Blue Pill?

Forbes has declared Monsanto “Company of the Year,” calling criticism of the notorious company “vicious” attacks against a company that “has been working to make humanity better fed.”

What’s more, Forbes claims that the attacks come because Monsanto has close to a monopoly in some seed markets, which Forbes argues is because they are making “seeds that are too good.”

You read that right. Apparently, Monsanto’s decades-long attempt to control the seed market — which has led it lawsuits against small farmers and genetically modified plants that never regerminate, forcing farmers to buy seeds year after year — is apparently just a result of their being “too good.”

An Interview with Wes Jackson by Robert Jensen

[Excerpt] As everyone scrambles for a solution to the crises in the nation’s economy, Wes Jackson suggests we look to nature’s economy for some of the answers. With everyone focused on a stimulus package in the short term, he counsels that we pay more attention to the soil over the long haul.

____________________________________________

“We live off of what comes out of the soil, not what’s in the bank,” said Jackson, president of The Land Institute. “If we squander the ecological capital of the soil, the capital on paper won’t much matter.”

Jackson doesn’t minimize the threat of the current financial problems but argues that the new administration should consider a “50-year farm bill,” which he and the writer/farmer Wendell Berry proposed in a New York Times op/ed earlier this month.

Central to such a bill would be soil. A plan for sustainable agriculture capable of producing healthful food has to come to solve the twin problems of soil erosion and contamination, said Jackson, who co-founded the research center in 1976 after leaving his job as an environmental studies professor at California State University-Sacramento.

Jackson believes that a key part of the solution is in approaches to growing food that mimic nature instead of trying to subdue it. While Jackson and his fellow researchers at The Land Institute continue their work on Natural Systems Agriculture, he also ponders how to turn the possibilities into policy. He spoke with me from his office in Salina, Kansas.

Robert Jensen: This is a short-term culture, and federal policies typically are aimed at short-term results. Why call for a farm bill that looks so far ahead, especially in tough economic times?

Wes Jackson: For the past 50 or 60 years, we have followed industrialized agricultural policies that have increased the rate of destruction of productive farmland. For those 50 or 60 years, we have let ourselves believe the absurd notion that as long as we have money we will have food. If we continue our offenses against the land and the labor by which we are fed, the food supply will decline, and we will have a problem far more complex than the failure of our paper economy.

Obama Puts Social Security on the Chopping Block!

Hope for lasting liberal change was washed away on Tuesday—not just with the loss of the Democrats’ super-majority in the Senate, but with a closed-door deal that would lead to cuts in bedrock liberal programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. While Massachusetts voters were casting their ballots to install Republican Scott Brown in Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat, President Obama was hammering out an agreement with Democratic leaders to support a commission on the deficit with the power to propose reductions to entitlement programs. This proposal represents a capitulation to conservatives in both parties, and leaves liberals surrendering not only on health care, but on the core achievements of the New Deal and the Great Society.

Under the agreement, President Obama would issue an executive order to create an 18-member panel that would be granted broad authority to propose changes in the tax code and in the massive federal entitlement programs — including Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security — that threaten to drive the nation’s debt to levels not seen since World War II. Nullification: It’s Official.

LIVE LINK HERE:

by Derek Sherif

I would like to start with two observations.

Before I explain why “official” nullification has already happened, let me briefly give some examples of what nullification is NOT.

Nullification is not secession or insurrection, but neither is it unconditional or unlimited submission. Nullification is not something that requires any decision, statement or action from any branch of the federal government. Nullification is not the result of obtaining a favorable court ruling. Nullification is not the petitioning of the federal government to start doing or to stop doing anything. Nullification doesn’t depend on any federal law being repealed. Nullification does not require permission from any person or institution outside of one’s own state.

So just what IS “official” nullification you might be asking?

Patenting life: crossing the threshold?

“The trucker knew he was a target. Operating on the Interstate to perform a delivery was a risky move because he had no licensing agreement for authority. The dirt roads weren’t efficient enough and  sooner or later he had to surface to cross a major river to access state lines. Always looking in the mirror was tiresome, so maybe driving at night would provide some cover. Who should worry? What he was doing was not against the law, but thousands of snitches were willing to call a hot line to turn him in. He hated driving through St. Louis anyway, it was the home of the Gateway Mafia.

Bureaucrats in Washington had allowed a firm named M-satan Movers to paint the center line with their patented paint. Congress never approved it, but a judge with former employment credentials of M-satan Movers ruled it was legal. This center line provided certain features that M-satan Movers claimed was revolutionary.

The trucking firm only had one rig. M-satan Movers had 50,000.  Since MM had the patent on this new paint they were allowed to pick & choose who got to drive on the hi-way system. Competitors dropped like flies in freezing weather. The injustice of the issue is the fact that all trucking firms were made to help maintain the hi-way infrastructure with their taxes; but many now couldn’t access it without permission from a major competitor. Very expensive licensing agreements were required; exposing all customer records. Fuel tickets & log books also were demanded. Those who chose to sell their soul to M-satan, soon found themselves in trouble because it was impossible to cross the financial threshold & constant demands of MM. When these firms couldn’t make ends meet, M-satan Movers consumed them in a leveraged takeover.

Although this is an analogy, the same level of redundant behavior is occurring in the seed industry.  Monsanto’s Round-up Ready is nothing more than a chemical event piggybacked onto the public’s genetic infrastructure.  The seed is used as a vehicle for delivery.  Since only so much infrastructure, exists, controlling a massive segment gives a fantastic amount of leverage to a single company.”

____________________________________

How could this happen? There is catastrophic ignorance from our legal system when applying patent law to life. Assuming genetics are stable enough to continue indefinitely is equivalent to assuming a farmer is going to get the same amount of rainfall every year, exactly when they need it.

These genetics are a parallel to our hi-way system.  Layers of publicly funded research and development have expanded the various corridors for the public to access and spur economic growth.  The same taxation without benefit is occurring also.  Public universities are patenting publicly funded research and allowing single seed companies to claim it as their own. DOJ Gets Serious About Antitrust, Targeting Dean Foods and Monsanto

ORIGINAL POST AT BNET  link here.

By Katherine Glover | Jan 27, 2010

Katherine Glover is a Minneapolis-based print, radio and online journalist. She’s written for Salon.com, Sierra Magazine and many others, and she does a weekly blog on immigration issues for MinnPost.

The Department of Justice has formalized its investigation of Monsanto and filed a lawsuit against Dean Foods, confirming rumors that the DOJ would be more vigilant on antitrust issues under the Obama Administration.

The Justice Department seeks to undo Dean’s acquisition of two Wisconsin dairy companies, alleging that the deal was a way to reduce competition and raise prices. This legal action is “highly unusual” according to one dairy analyst; “this is the first bark we’ve heard from the antitrust division on food issues in a very long time.” The Bush Administration did not file a single major anti-monopoly case, according to the Washington Post.

The latest Monsanto investigation is about whether Monsanto will continue to produce its current Roundup Ready soybean seeds after the patent expires in 2014, or whether it will simply swap in a new, upgraded product under a new patent so it can maintain its high prices.

This is not the first time Monsanto has been accused of monopolist tendencies; the company controls an estimated 96 percent of the U.S. soybean crop and 80 percent of its corn crop, and some have compared Monsanto to the Microsoft of earlier decades. READ MORE

Mexican Cartels “tortured and cook” American in Mexico

“Zamora-Espinzoa testified that his nephew told him they were “cooking the body” of Ramirez at a ranch in Mexico. Ramirez was killed even though his father had paid $40,000 out of a $100,000 dollars ransom demand. But court documents obtained by Action 4 News show that Ramirez was not the only victim.”

One of the most dangerous Mexican Drug Cartels (MDC’s) known as the Gulf Cartel orders kidnappings and murders of Americans. What most Americans do not know about is that Americans have been kidnapped and murdered on both sides of the Mexican U.S. Border by Mexican Drug Cartel orders. Case in point the feds arrested suspected cartel kidnapping murderous gang members who are accused of taking American victims from Texas to Mexico where they were tortured, held for ransom and in this case — killed. The trial for alleged kidnapping ring member Luis Alberto Avila-Hernandez started before U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane in McAllen Texas last week with out much fanfare or main stream media attention.

In still other cases the MDC’s have reached deep into the United States to kill Americans. MDC’s known member Jose Daniel Gonzalez was murdered on American soil in El Paso Texas. Gonzalez according to law enforcement was acting as an U.S. Government informant feeding important information about several Mexican Drug Cartel families to the feds. More

MEAT TRADE DAILY  January 27, 2010

Is feeding antibiotics to food animals contributing to the increase in resistant bacterial infections of humans?

It’s a question that has been floating precariously between the livestock agricultural industry and the medical community for years, with plenty of speculation but no definitive answers.

But a piece of legislation introduced to Congress this past summer — timed, whether intentionally or not, with talks of health care reform and, to a lesser extent, the H1N1 influenza pandemic and humane animal treatment — has suddenly pushed this issue to the forefront of public discussion, and what was once an occasionally heated debate has now turned into a full-blown fight between the people who feed us and the people who treat our illnesses.

The “Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment” Act (PAMTA) of 2009, H.R. 1549 and its companion bill S. 619, would restrict the types of antibiotics used with animals intended for the food chain to those that demonstrate no harm to human health due to resistance development caused by nontherapeutic uses. These nontherapeutic uses refer to the feeding of antibiotics to the whole herd as a preventative measure, rather than treating illnesses of specific animals as needed; nontherapeutic antibiotic use may also be referred to as “antibiotics as growth promoters.” The antibiotics in question would be those that are also used to prevent or treat human infections, which would include seven classes of antibiotic: penicillins, tetracyclines, macrolides, lincosamides, streptogramins, animoglycosides, and sulfonamides.

Not surprisingly, this bill is pitting food producer against food user in a contentious fight for control over the American food supply. READ MORE

U.S. GOVERNMENT POSED TO INCREASE NATIONAL DEBT CEILING TO $13 TRILLION

A bill HR 3326, The Department of Defense Appropriations Act is currently up for vote on the Senate floor. An amendment in the Act proposes a national debt ceiling hike to $13 trillion dollars, using “entitlement spending” to pay for it. Facts here on the Government Executive website:  see also the Senate website at www.senate.gov

“Entitlement spending” to pay for this national debt is Social Security, Medicare, Veteran’s Benefits, and Medicaid, according to an aid in my Senator’s office. Basically, this means that all of the above programs will either be cut back or could possibly disappear entirely as funds are diverted to paying for the monstrous debt. More

Dairy farming tragedy

Copake – For hours, the backhoe and bulldozer worked at the grim task, burying the remains of a Gothic farming tragedy.

The backhoe’s large metal claws dug into the dirt and opened a long, deep trench in the fertile Columbia County soil, pocked with cow dung and the deep imprints of 1,500-pound Holstein hooves.

There was no delicate way to bury these 51 beasts. The bulldozer’s heavy, flat blade pushed the cows into the mass bovine grave, their striking black-and-white patterned hides gone slack in death.

For years, they had provided a livelihood for a dairyman who said little and bent to his arduous task generally alone, rarely saying much to neighbors, preferring to keep to himself.

Many of us witnessed the arrogance of Barbara Boxer on June 18, 2009 as she admonished Brigadier General Michael Walsh because he addressed her as “ma’am” and not “Senator” before a Senate hearing.

You were so right on when you scolded the general on TV for using the term, “ma’am,” instead of “Senator”.  After all, in the military, “ma’am” is a term of respect when addressing a female of superior rank or position.  The general was totally wrong. You are not a person of superior rank or position.. You are a member of one of the world’s most corrupt organizations, the U.S. Senate, equaled only by the U.S. House of Representatives. More

Remembering La Gloria: New television documentary traces origins of the H1N1 pandemic back to pig farms in Mexico

by GRAIN

This past November people from all over Mexico gathered in the Valley of Perote, where the village of La Gloria is located, for the fifth Asamblea Nacional de Afectados Ambientales [National Assembly of Environmentally Affected].

It is a large, periodical gathering of a network of communities and organisations struggling against environmental devastation in Mexico. The location for this most recent gathering was chosen in recognition of the importance of the local struggles against the large pig farms in the area, which had gained national and worldwide attention when the first human cases of pandemic H1N1 swine flu were traced back to La Gloria in April 2009.

This was the second Asamblea for the people of La Gloria and the first for an alliance of communities in the Valley of Perote who have now joined La Gloria in resisting factory farming. Out of the swine flu crisis, the struggle against factory farming has grown stronger, moving from isolated local resistance to a major component of a national movement.

A new documentary on the H1N1 pandemic and factory farming, based on the experiences of La Gloria and the neighbouring communities, now brings this struggle to an international audience and puts factory farming back on centre stage in the story of the H1N1 pandemic. READ MORE (Includes Video)

“This corporation is listed on Dunn & Bradstreet and as with all corporations, it’s first and only fiduciary duty is to make a profit.  This corporation is the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS).”

The recent decision by the Supreme Court, based on the claim that the free speech of business would be impaired if corporations were not allowed to finance campaigns directly, instead of having to do things like say…..making a massive contribution in the name of each and every employee or creating soft money PAC’s to make sure their candidate was awash in funding, is no longer necessary.  This would more rightly have been called a “paperwork reduction” ruling.  Corporations no longer have to find ways to hide their massive funding of candidates receptive to their agendas.

Corporations are persons under the law.  They have more rights than a real individual has.  Remember that the next time you hold a product of any sort in your hand, or, you purchase a service; you are actually holding or using the essence of a person.  I know it is so because the Supreme Court has said that it is.  These products and services are the same as a living, breathing human being, so treat them with care.

This decision, which amounted to nothing more than judicial prostitution for corporate profits, was rendered by…you guessed it……a corporation.  This corporation is listed on Dunn & Bradstreet and as with all corporations, it’s first and only fiduciary duty is to make a profit.  This corporation is the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS).

So who profited and in what way?  More

Sacramento Horse Advocates Hold Rally Against Wild Horse Roundups

Sacramento, Calif (January 19)— Wild horse advocates from In Defense of Animals (IDA), The Cloud Foundation, and other members of the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign Coalition, will hold a rally Thursday, January 21, at 11 a.m. in front of the State Capitol Building, to call attention to the Obama Administration’s massive roundup and removal of wild horses from public lands in the West.  The largest of such roundups is currently underway in the Calico Mountains Complex, known as the National System of Public Lands, in northwestern Nevada. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is removing over 2,500 horses, or 80 to 90 percent of the horses living in the Calico Complex.  To date, four horses have died in the Calico roundup, which began on December 28 and continues through February.

What:   Rally for America’s Wild Horses
Where: State Capitol, 10th Street between L and N
When:  Thursday, January 21, 2010, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Press Conference at 12 noon

“The environmental assessment, which led the BLM to conclude that the horses should be removed, was wholly inadequate,” explains Ginger Kathrens, executive director of the Cloud Foundation. “BLM did not analyze the impacts of cattle grazing in the Calico Complex. When asked why, the agency said ‘this issue is outside of the scope of this environmental analysis.’ How convenient then, that wild horses can be blamed for range damage, and then removed at a cost of millions to the American taxpayer.” More

Ont. farmer toasts victory in raw milk trial with glass of the contentious drink

By Ciara Byrne, The Canadian Press

NEWMARKET, Ont. – Clutching a glass of raw milk, an emotional Michael Schmidt toasted what he called a victory for the local food movement Thursday after the Ontario dairy farmer was found not guilty of 19 charges related to selling unpasteurized milk.

“People need to learn how to stand up even when it seems it’s impossible to achieve change in our interpretation of the law,” said Schmidt, who was often depicted by supporters as the small farmer fighting for consumer food rights against an established milk industry.

In a legal battle that played out over three years, Schmidt fought to continue the operation of his 150-member raw milk co-operative in Durham, Ont., and defended himself against the charges for dispensing milk straight from the cow.

Schmidt was charged under the Health Protection and Promotion Act and the Milk Act after an armed raid by about two dozen officers and government officials at his farm in 2006. More

What changed my mind about going public with the story was the discovery, by a friend of mine, of a web-based article that appeared on NextGov.com on January 15th, just three days after the quake. More

Report shows less beef production, growing exports

Editors note: The USDA and ag media can carefully document history with numbers.  It is the job of each ranch survivor to use the data to make profitable projections . Although these numbers are probably correct, here is how it will shake out:

1) The US has imported more beef than exported for the last 21 years.

2) Although data shows more beef is imported (+$2,000,000,000) than is exported, a reducing inventory of beef production has had no resolve in USDA and BEEF CHECK OFF efforts to increase US exports. The unasked question is “Who does the US buy beef from for export sales when the nation has not produced enough beef in 21 years to feed the nation?”

3) No extra expense is necessary for US producers to implement NAIS when exports are proven to be of no value to the US producer.  Any country that thinks US should do mandatory NAIS will not be able to buy any US beef shortly.  There won’t be any extra available.

4) US beef export will be history within 3 years.  Check the data and watch.

5) The Beef Check Off money should be used totally to promote a US market to increase competition with vegetarian promotions. Darol Dickinson

Captured Calico Wild Horses Denied Windbreaks

BLM’s double-standards leave nearly 1000 captured mustangs in the cold

Fallon, NV (January 19, 2010)— 956 wild American mustangs rounded up off public land by helicopters in the past two weeks now stand in a feedlot-style Bureau of Land Management (BLM) contracted holding facility outside of Fallon, Nevada on private land. The new Fallon facility is not equipped with shelter, windbreaks or protection of any kind for the horses. High winds, rain and snow are expected to continue through the end of the week. In Calico, herds can move to sheltered canyons for protection from the harsh winter weather. Yet, in Fallon, they are deprived of adequate protection despite recommendations from wild horse advocates. This is in direct opposition to BLM’s own standards.
“I’m confused by the double standard. Before members of the public are allowed to adopt a wild horse from BLM we must prove we have adequate shelter. Why doesn’t BLM have to meet the same standards?” asks Ann Evans, adopter of three mustangs.

Yesterday, members of the public reported an inhumane lack of windbreaks. No apparent effort has been made to tie canvas tarps on fences to block the howling wind and the anticipated driving snow. On Friday January 15, advocates asked local Nevada BLM staff, Directors and top-level Department of Interior (DOI) under-secretaries to intervene on behalf of the horses by creating wind blocks.  More

The Seed Monopolies: The warning signs were there

Essentially the same thing is happening in agriculture that happened in 1913 with the Federal Reserve. Thomas Jefferson gave us a stark warning during his era….”The central banks and the corporations that grow up around them are more dangerous than any standing army”.
I’ve got a new company slogan for Monsanto…………

“PROFESSIONAL THIEVES & LIARS”

The warning signs have been around for years, so have the predictions. When I was a kid I remember a conversation between my dad and two neighbors. It was spring planting season during the mid 1970’s and we were standing along the road visiting. The focus of these men was the PVPA label on the bags of soybean seed. One remarked “You wait, one of these days those bastards will end up stealing this from us!” At the time and for several years to follow I had no clue what they where talking about; but I do now.

The PVPA was not a totally welcome event. Our genetic infrastructure had been loaned to private industry to enhance & market under their label. The fears were soothed by the exemption from infringement of “farmers’ right to save seed”.

Fast forward twenty five years. READ MORE

Tell Congress we want a real healthcare reform bill.

Congressional Democrats are frantically negotiating the final version of the so-called healthcare “reform” bill. We think they should stop and start over.

Tell Congress we want a real healthcare reform bill.

You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .

I do not believe the healthcare bill is about reform. Reform would change direction in healthcare policy, whereas this healthcare bill continues on the failed path of increased government control. More

Executive Orders: The Hallmarks Of Fascist Tyranny.

The Executive Branch of our federal government has become a 500 pound tick that’s being fed by a 50 pound dog (the American people) due to presidential Executive Orders (EOs). EOs – not to be confused with Eos, the supernaturally beautiful goddess of Greek mythology – have become an ugly fact of American life, ever since our terrible conflagration known as the American Civil War.

An Executive Order (EO) is an order made by a president that has the full force and effect of any laws constitutionally passed by congress, and signed by the president. In a representative democracy, laws are made by duly elected representatives, not by a head of state, by mere edict, with no debate, or samplings of public opinion, such as EOs are made into law: The former is known as “rule by law,” the latter as “rule by men.” READ MORE

Failure to yield: Evaluating the Performance of Genetically Engineered Crops

The Union of Concerned Scientists pdf.

Driven by economic and political forces, food prices soared to record highs in 2007 and 2008, causing hardships around the world. Although a global food shortage was not a factor then or now—worldwide food production continues to exceed demand—those recent price spikes and localized scarcity, together with rising populations in many countries and individuals’ rising aspirations, have brought renewed attention to the need to increase food production in the coming decades. Many commentators and stakeholders have pointed to the alleged promise of genetic engineering (GE)—in which the crop DNA is changed using the gene-insertion techniques of molecular biology—for dramatically improving the yields of staple food crops. But a hard-nosed assessment of this expensive technology’s achievements to date gives little confidence that it will play a major role in helping the world feed itself in the foreseeable future.
This report is the first to evaluate in detail the overall, or aggregate, yield effect of GE after more than 20 years of research and 13 years of commercialization in the United States. Based on that record, we conclude that GE has done little to increase overall crop yields. Read More

Low milk prices, the result of market price manipulation by the USDA, is setting the stage and preparing the way for the New Zealand based Cullen-Agritech to over take the domestic and independent dairy industry in the US.

While on the eastern seaboard, warnings are issued that a regional shortage of milk is looming; in the mid and western US, dairy farmers are paid and encouraged to cull their herds or eliminate them altogether as the USDA claims there is a milk glut.

(At this point I could post various links to almost every state in the Union, concerning the “glut” of milk on US markets.  A simple search with keywords: Milk glut in US  will produce enough reading for days.)

USDA never speaks about the importation of tons of milk products from China, nor that yet another batch of melamine laced milk products were just dumped into the US food supply for the umpteenth time, by China.   More

Stop National Animal ID: Food Control Is People Control

When the Communists took over the Ukraine, the bread basket of Europe, about 70 years ago, they destroyed or stole all food and animals, starving to death 7 million people. Today Zimbabwe, the bread basket of Africa, has had its farms destroyed and is on the verge of starvation. Is our country next?

Today Communism has become less visible. However, groups with the same globalist views are nearing completion of their goals. Groups like the socialist Council of Foreign Relations [founded in New York in 1921 with the goal of ending American sovereignty, the membership of which has included several past presidents including Bill Clinton], the Trilateralists [a related group founded in 1973 for the purpose of seizing control of the United States government and consolidating its political, monetary, intellectual, and ecclesiastical powers], Skull and Bones [a highly secret Yale University society whose select members have included some of the most powerful men of the 20th century, including President George Bush] are having great success creating a world dictatorship. Most of their power has been acquired from purchased government officials. Congress has, for example, depleted our industrial base by giving the unelected elitists at the United Nations World Trade Organization complete control of our trade decisions.

The coming National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is another prime example of this legislative road to enslavement [Assault on Small Farmers]. When in full force NAIS will assign all animals a land base (farm) and each animal will have a radio frequency identification tag. Every time a cow is sent off its land base to a sale, or a horse is ridden off its land base, government permission will be required. The global positioning in the tag will give Big Brother the ability to spy on you. I’m sure Stalin and Hitler would have been envious of such a system.

Like gun control, food control is people control. In addition to animal control, the elitists, with their patented genetically manipulated seeds, are becoming our only source of seeds. So, contrary to “It can’t happen here,” It is happening here!

“So, I’m asking this……why the silence?  Cat got your bank account?  ..I mean, tongue?”

In 2000 when the Bush & Co. Crime organization was unconstitutionally selected by the Supreme Court as the new president of the corporation we know as THE UNITED STATES, unlawfully taking possession of that office, the religious fanatics of all stripes fell to their knees and cried “hallelujah”.  It was not uncommon to hear those who subscribe to radical religious beliefs claim that “god” had selected Bush; it was “god” who wanted Bush in the White House; some even going so far as to proclaim that god was living in the White house via Bush.   I could only conclude that “god” must have been really pissed at us, or, he was actually holding a seat on the Supreme Court and no one told us, or, he was possibly staying over at the big house maybe sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom.

Realizing the willing gullibility of those who believed the torturous twisting of scripture, the misinterpretations of and intentional misrepresenting of biblical quotes, the neo-conservative wing (formerly known as “the crazies in the basement” by Bush Sr.) kicked into high gear.  The crazies from the basement publicly embraced those driven insane by religious zealotry and the game was on although the zealots seemed not to be aware they were even playing.  More

Environmental Group Joins Hunting Lobby in Government Sponsored Assault on Nevada’s Mustangs

“Scapegoating wild horses and burros for range deterioration must stop—they comprise only a tiny fraction of the animals and grazing wildlife on our public lands. Millions of head of livestock graze public lands at a cost of $1.35/cow-calf pair/month. Overall public lands grazing constitutes a net loss of $123 million annually to the American tax payer following administrative costs while economists estimate the total damage at $500 million to $1 billion annually.”

What fuels the alliance?

Colorado Springs, CO (January 17, 2010)—During today’s protest in New York City, The Cloud Foundation asks why has the Nevada Sierra Club joined in a bizarre alliance with the powerful international trophy-hunting lobby, Safari Club International (SCI), whose work to lift hunting bans worldwide often diminishes protections for wildlife. In announcing their support for the current inhumane and costly removal of 80-90% of the Calico wild horses in Northern Nevada, The Sierra Club spokesperson has failed to acknowledge that the essential cause of degradation of public lands is livestock use—not wild horses. One must ask:  why the alliance? Is it forged on more than livestock? Are there energy moguls making deals behind the scenes?

Upon accepting the position as Secretary of Interior Salazar announced, “I look forward to helping build our clean energy economy, modernize our interstate electrical grid, and ensure that we are making wise use of our conventional natural resources, including coal, oil, and natural gas.”

The Safari Club sung praises for Obama’s appointment of Salazar for Secretary of the Department of Interior. Obviously the powerful SCI lobby has been actively backing Salazar for a long time.

“Senator Salazar’s pro-hunting votes over the past four years in Washington, and his support for access to federal lands for hunting throughout his entire career in Colorado will prove to be invaluable for sportsmen and women during this Administration” said SCI President Merle Shepard continuing with “SCI looks forward to working with Senator Salazar in the Obama Administration to make sure the hunter’s voice is heard on every issue that affects hunting, hunters or science-based wildlife management.

The half-million acre Calico Complex herd management area is the last stronghold of the American mustang and was designated by Congress principally for the use of wild horses and burros.  More

Obama and the Global Police: More Friendly Fascism?

by John W. Whitehead
Recently by John W. Whitehead: America Under Barack Obama

“The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.” ~ James Madison

Over the course of his first year in office, Barack Obama has shown himself to be a skillful and savvy politician, saying the things Americans want to hear while stealthily and inexorably moving forward the government’s agenda of centralized power. For example, in one breath, Obama pays lip service to the need for greater transparency in government, while in another; he issues an executive order that will result in even more government secrecy.

He is aided in this Machiavellian mindset by a trusting populace inclined to take him at his word and a mainstream media seemingly loath to criticize him or scrutinize his actions too closely. A perfect example of this is the media’s relative lack of scrutiny over Obama’s recent transformation of Executive Order (EO) 12425 from a document that constitutionally limits the International Criminal Police Organization’s (Interpol) activities domestically to one that establishes it as an autonomous police agency within the U.S. READ MORE

Numbers That Provide Perspective

Early this week I received an offer to save $25 from sanofi aventis of Trenton, NJ. (No effort will be made to protect the guilty.) It consisted of a 5 and 7/8 inch by 9 inch tri-fold, full color piece on what I’d estimate is 40 lb. stock. They strove mightily to convince me that I need a Lantus SoloStar pen to deliver my insulin. (More on this later.)

Of course, this device is available only by prescription, so they want me to bug my doctor about it.

Tucked inside was a piece containing, I think, all the reasons I should, or should not use this device. On 15 lb. stock, this octofoil measured an incredible 34 by 11 inches when all unfolded. Giving credit for four (of sixteen) panels containing no copy, the piece contained 280.5 square inches of #6 font. That’s the font that we ‘seniors’ trot out the full-page magnifier for. I did not bother.

And that is my whole point. WHO READS THIS CRAP?

For perspective, that is the equivalent of seven and one-third pages in your Reader’s Digest. Based on their own numbers, this same amount of never-read copy would cost their readers $665,768 for one year.

The thing that raises my blood pressure is that Big Pharma chalks all this up under Administrative Costs, estimated by most to be somewhere between ten and thirty cents of every dollar we spend for health care. To put that in perspective, I have been spending the share in the Income Statement allotted to Administrative Costs for more than fifty years. It has never exceeded two-and-a-half percent of Gross Profit.

Here is the scoop on my supposed need for insulin. I do not have diabetes. I am no more prone to be diabetic than are most people. How did these people, with whom I have never done any business, select me for inclusion in their mailing list?

There must be some way all this advertising, by way of all media, for prescription drugs and devices, asking us to bug our doctors for the ‘latest and greatest’, can be wrestled under control or, best scenario, eliminated altogether.

Breaking News: Monsanto Takes Center for Food Safety Legal Victory to Highest Court

“A 2009 study showed that the use of genetically modified crops, the vast majority Monsanto’s “roundup ready” crops, has caused over the last 13 years a dramatic increase in herbicide use, by 383 million pounds, and concomitant harms to the environment and human health.

The U.S. Department of Justice has undertaken an investigation of Monsanto regarding violations of anti-trust and monopoly laws and is set to hold public hearings in spring 2010.

Another 2009 study showed that, despite decades of promises and hype, GE crops do not increase yields.”

_________________________________________________

(January 15, 2010) Today, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to hear a first-time case about the risks of genetically engineered crops.  Named Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms, No. 09-475, the case before the high court will be yet another step in an ongoing battle waged by the Center for Food Safety to protect consumers and the environment from potentially harmful effects of genetically engineered (GE) crops.

The modified alfalfa seed at the heart of the dispute has been engineered to be immune to Monsanto’s flagship herbicide Roundup. Monsanto intervened in a 2007 federal district court ruling that the Department of Agriculture’s approval of GE alfalfa was illegal.  The Center for Food Safety (CFS) filed a 2006 lawsuit on behalf of a coalition of non-profits and farmers who wished to retain the choice to plant non-GE alfalfa. CFS was victorious in this case – in addition CFS has won two appeals by Monsanto in the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit: in 2008 and again in 2009. Now, upon Monsanto’s insistence, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case.

“This is truly a ‘David versus Goliath’ struggle, between public interest non-profits and a corporation bent on nothing less than domination of our food system,” said Andrew Kimbrell, executive director of the Center for Food Safety. “That Monsanto has pushed this case all the way to the Supreme Court, even though USDA’s court-ordered analysis is now complete, and the U.S. government actively opposed further litigation in this matter, underscores the great lengths that Monsanto will go to further its mission of patent control of our food system and selling more pesticides.” More

News from Canada

If you love democracy, if you think that all those soldiers in World War Two died for something valuable, PLEASE help to organize some little thing in your community, or join a rally.   Or just pass this email along.

There are protests right across Canada on Saturday, January 23rd, many start at 1:00 pm.   The Saskatoon one is in front of City Hall.

There are 192,000 Canadians signed up on the facebook group, “Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament” (noon, Friday Jan 25th, Saskatchewan time).  The numbers continue to climb.  Before I started writing this there was 191,900.   I just checked and it’s  192,066   (12:06 pm).  Think of all the people who are not on facebook!

“When a government starts trying to cancel dissent or avoid dissent is frankly when it’s rapidly losing its moral authority to govern.” (Stephen Harper, Canadian Press, April 18, 2005)

On December 30th Stephen Harper announced – without consulting anyone – that he will be Proroguing Parliament and suspending democracy until March 3. This is the second time he has done this in under two years.

“If BLM cares so much about the ecological balance, it would not be enabling the Ruby gas pipeline to rip the public wild lands and watersheds here apart,” says Fite adding, “The horses, sage-grouse, antelope and everything else are caught in the crosshairs of BLM selling out the public lands that belong to all Americans—to ranchers and big energy interests.”

Wild Horse Protests Follow the Money to New York City

New York City, NY (January 14, 2010)—Wild horse and burro advocates demand immediate investigations of the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Wild Horse and Burro program as well as a moratorium on roundups, until sustainable management practices are implemented to protect the American wild horses in the West. Protesters will gather on Sunday, January 17 from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. at Columbus Circle (59th St at Central Park S). The press conference will be held at 2 P.M. The public objects to BLM’s removal of wild horses for fast tracked energy deals on public land in the West, such as the Ruby Pipeline, and objects to schemes to subsidize corporate welfare ranchers.
“The Roundups must stop. The destruction of public land must stop. Government agencies and private corporations must be held accountable and must safeguard wildlife—not eliminate it,” says Ginger Kathrens, Volunteer Executive Director, The Cloud Foundation (named for the famous wild horse Kathrens has documented for the PBS/Nature series)
Members of the public are furious that the BLM continues roundups despite Federal D.C. District Court Judge Paul Friedman’s recommendation that BLM postpone Calico until the issue of out of state transport and long term holding can be decided. More
