The myth of Wal-Mart as an indispensable part of Americana that presents the poor with a wide selection of affordable products is coming unraveled.

The revelation that Wal-Mart actually kills jobs and damages local communities is contradictory to their own brand marketing, but in a Yahoo news story Wal-Mart is drawing ire from the very people who it claims to be helping. The story cites a report released in January by City University of New York’s Hunter College Center for Community Planning, which studied 50 Wal-Mart stores and the impact they have had on the surrounding communities. The conclusions are striking:

The overwhelming weight of the independent research on the impact of Wal-Mart stores . . . shows that Wal-Mart depresses area wages and labor benefits . . . pushes out more retail jobs than it creates, and results in more retail vacancies.

This report has led the City Council to condemn Wal-Mart, saying:

‘To me, Wal-Mart is definitely not welcome in this city,’ asserted Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito. ‘It is a union-busting, tax-evading, wage-suppressing, job-destroying, civil-rights abusing, food stamp-denying, multi-national corporation that has no place in this city.’

Middle-class? Entrepreneurs? Long Gone!

With the US family farmer, the Banking Cartel called in their equipment loans and farm mortgages, while they had their Dept. of Agriculture pull their price supports on commodities, like milk. I know how this scam was pulled off, as I owned a small dairy farm at that time.

Like swans of legend, our once esteemed American entrepreneurs sing their final, beautiful Swan Song before they just fade away, thus tearing open the heart of our country.

Our unsung entrepreneurial heroes of America are no longer part of the national discourse, even though they were the ones who built our affluent middle-class, and helped so many of us to achieve the great American Dream.

Without a return of our small business owners and family farmers, the American Dream will be forever lost.

Entrepreneurs started and finished things, things that built an affluent and viable middle-class society, something the world has seen very little of.

The small businesses and family farms that made America the envy of the world, were largely made up of a dynamic, rugged, bright, hard-working lot of entrepreneurs, who fought for the common hope of us all: the American Dream.

Mr President,

With hopes of a V- or U-shaped recovery fading, there is the increasing prospect of an L-shaped future of long stagnation, or even a W-shaped future in which W stands for something worse.

The reason for this dismal outlook is economic policy is trapped by failed conventional thinking that can only deliver wage stagnation and prolonged mass unemployment.

Your administration’s current economic recovery program has been marked by four major failings:

1. Inadequate fiscal stimulus.
2. Failure to cauterise the housing market
3. Failure to neutralise the trade deficit
4. Failure to restore the link between wage and productivity growth

If your policy team remedies these four failings our economy will quickly begin robust recovery. However, the longer you wait the greater the challenge, because recession creates new facts in the form of bankruptcies, foreclosures, destroyed credit histories, job losses and factory closures.
