The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) publicly published the statement that they are above the law and the 1971 Congressional Wild Horse and Burro protection LAW DOES NOT PERTAIN TO THEM! BLM stated: “The … [Congressional] Act … is not pertinent to the overall management of the wild horse and burro populations by the BLM and USFS. In general, it protects the wild horses and burros from such actions by the general populous.”

Well … apparently the BLM also considers themselves as being “above” Mother Nature too because they insist wild horses must be removed from their legally designated land (our public land) because of current widespread “drought” and BLM has been pushing this same drought agenda for at least three years. Basically these “emergency” roundups are just a front/excuse to round up as many wild horses and burros as they want, when they want and behind the public’s back with no accountability by using bait/water trapping. In order for anything to be considered normal or average there must be ups and downs. In 2011 the precipitation in Elko (mid-Nevada) was 125% of normal, 2012 was 63% of normal and as of April 2013 Elko had 78% of normal precipitation and since then [May] it has had another almost half-inch of rain and today’s forecast states, “BRIEF HEAVY RAIN” and “MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN IS CURRENTLY FALLING” and “RAINFALL RATES OF ONE-QUARTER TO ONE-HALF INCH PER HOUR IS POSSIBLE IN THIS [storm] BAND”.

CHATHAM, N.Y., March 27, 2013 –The 2013 Annual American Equine Summit will take place Saturday, April 27 – Sunday, April 28 at Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary in Chatham, NY. This Summit will unite the equine community’s foremost experts to speak about how to end horse slaughter which, although opposed by more than 80% of Americans, is now legal in the U.S.

Salt Lake City, UT (October 27, 2012) – The Cloud Foundation, Respect4Horses and Wild Horse Freedom Federation will hold a special press conference on the current state of America’s mismanaged wild horses and burros. The groups are calling for a halt to all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) roundups that are destroying the last of America’s wild herds at enormous and escalating taxpayer expense and an immediate investigation into credible allegations where stockpiled wild horses and burros are being sold to known kill buyers for eventual slaughter for human consumption abroad.

The media and the interested public are encouraged to attend this public press conference at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown (215 West South Temple) from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29th, 2012. The public press event will take place on the opening day of the BLM’s controversial Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting occurring, likewise, at the Radisson Hotel.

Currently the BLM has scheduled massive roundups of wild horses and burros throughout the remainder of this calendar year. Remnant herds of wild horses and burros live in 10 western states, including Utah, but their future is tenuous. The agency responsible for their protection and preservation, the BLM, is managing them to extinction. While the cruel and costly roundups continue, the BLM has no idea how many wild horses remain in the wild while pumping tens of thousands of captured wild horses and burros into both short and long term holding facilities. To date the BLM has stockpiled more than 48,000 + wild horses and burros in costly government holding, leaving millions of acres of legally designated wild horse and burro ranges empty.

Noted investigative reporter and wild equine advocate, Debbie Coffey, has graciously stepped in to fill the vacancy left by Laura Leigh’s voluntarily resignation from the Board of Directors (BoD) of Wild Horse Freedom Federation (WHFF).

Ms. Coffey brings her clear vision, investigative ability and knowledge of the inner workings of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to WHFF and was unanimously given a vote of confidence by the BoD and the wild horse advocacy, over all.

“Slaughterhouse” Sue Wallis is a Stranger to the Truth“

Sue Wallis recently released talking points for supporters to use with their legislators. Talking points should be concise but more importantly, accurate. Apparently, Sue Wallis did not get the memo on the latter. Not only are they inaccurate but she can’t keep her lies straight, particularly when it comes to numbers. It is not wise to disprove your own statements. She not only shoots herself in the foot but continues reloading and shooting over and over again.

Take special note that once again, the issue of food safety is completely ignored. Feel free to share this in your conversations with legislators! My apologies for a plain document in comparison to the slick PDF from Wallis. I thought content was more important than esthetics.

Today, more than 300,000 horses in America have no where to go, living out the last of their days to die painful death of starvation and thirst.

There are no statistics to substantiate this outrageous claim. And even if it were true, less than 115,000 horses are slaughtered each year so there would still be almost 200,000 horses that “have nowhere to go”. The foreign meat business only buys the number of horses needed to fill the demand, not the number of available horses. This point is worthless and a clear message that horse slaughter will not solve any problems that may exist. Slaughter is for food production and not the place to send horses “that have nowhere to go”.
Note to self Sue, don’t refute your own arguments in the same statement.

The Government Accounting Office (GAO) report of June 2011 indicates that any U.S. appropriation riders and bills that seek to eliminate humane horse processing in the U.S. offer ZERO solutions.

Horse slaughter hasn’t provided any solutions and is confirmed with your first talking point. So you now have two talking points that say nothing and offer nothing. The GAO report also recommended banning horse slaughter.
