We have been keeping you posted on the anti-gun “health” bill which would dump all of your most private health-related gun information into a federal database — and would allow the Obama administration to suspend your government-mandated insurance if you keep a loaded firearm for self-defense.

But this legislation ran into a buzz saw because it would cut health entitlements — primarily Medicare — by $404 billion.  In particular, under the health bill crafted by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, Medicare payments to doctors would drop 25% after the first year — bringing the Medicare program to a screeching halt.

Now, Senate Democrat Leader Reid has crafted a procedural trick:  He’ll restore over $200 billion of the $404 billion in cuts in separate legislation — S. 1776.

Because it is a separate bill, he will continue to claim that health reform “doesn’t increase the federal deficit by a single penny,” even though it increases the deficit by 20 trillion pennies when you consider this second bill.

Suffice it to say that this tactic is corrupt, even by Harry Reid standards.

This fraud bill is being filibustered by Senate Republicans.  And the Senate will vote on whether to cut off debate on Monday, shortly after 5:00 EDT. More

Americans must buy health insurance? from Downsize DC

D o w n s i z e r – D i s p a t c h

Quote of the Day: “I have found strength where one does not look for it: in simple, mild, and pleasant people, without the least desire to rule—and, conversely, the desire to rule has often appeared to me a sign of inward weakness: they fear their own slave soul and shroud it in a royal cloak (in the end, they still become the slaves of their followers, their fame, etc.)” — Friedrich Nietzsche

Subject: Two bills to support

A Washington-Post/ABC poll says that public support for Obamacare has slipped below 50% for the first time.

This is why Congressional leaders are in such a rush to pass the bill. They know things will only get worse for their dreams of government controlled health care. We have to keep pushing to stop a rushed vote, and the latest news indicates we may be succeeding.

If we can win this victory now the prospects for true health care reform in a free market direction will become much better.

Today, we can continue to say no to government controlled health care by saying yes to two bills introduced by Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX). . .

HR 2629 is called the “Coercion Is Not Health Care Act.” It would remove any federal requirement that American’s MUST buy health insurance. More

upc_v3b_icon                    Repeal the REAL ID Act

https://secure.downsizedc.org/etp/campaigns/30

The REAL ID Act creates a centralized federal database of personal information about all Americans. Decisions about the exact nature and scope of this program will be made by unelected bureaucrats in the Executive Branch. It seems inevitable that biometric information and electronic tracking tags will be included at some point. No one intends a bad use for this system today, but it is inevitable that it will be used in bad ways in the future.

We are promised increased personal security in return for laying this new “foundation stone” for the creation of a future police state. But those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither, and will have neither.

Many good arguments can be made against REAL ID, but they all reduce to one overpowering truth. The more information government has the less it seems to know. The more power government has the less it seems able to accomplish. Big Government doesn’t work. The federal government needs to do less in order to accomplish more. Small government is focused government. We need smaller government, not a massive new federal identification system. Please ask Congress to repeal the REAL ID Act.

Sending a message is easy. You can write as much or as little as you want. And we start with a brief sentence or two for you. We do this so that . . .

  • The most important point of this campaign is not lost on the Congressional office.
  • No one can hijack our system for a purpose inconsistent with Downsizing DC.
  • But you can still personalize the rest of your message — explain why you were motivated to send this message, or what you believe is the most compelling argument in support of your position.

Are these messages read even with so many folks sending a common first line? You bet they are! Congress cannot afford not to pay attention. And many DC Downsizers get responses from their Congressmen. If you receive a letter, feel free to share it with us at comments@DownsizeDC.org.

The REAL ID Act is a bad law passed under false pretenses. It was rejected three separate times by the U.S. Senate, and was only passed because it was added to a larger bill containing disaster relief and funding for Iraq. The Senate didn’t want it, and the American people don’t want it either. But the Republican majority leadership in Congress imposed it on us, and so now we have to fight to get it repealed.
