Since yesterday, 13 Senators have added themselves as Co-Sponsors or Chief Co-Sponsors for the right to keep Illinois Citizens FOID information private.
Apparently they started receiving many, many, many calls stating;
“What’s this we hear about people being able to FOIA my personal information?”
Once again Illinois Citizens are making a difference by contacting their Legislators. However the Mainstream Media (MSM) is once again portraying this as a “losing proposition” for Gun Owners. The Chicago Tribune has this to say:
Members of the House Judiciary Committee on civil law voted 5-5 to halt a bill from advancing that would prohibit state police from making public the names of the 1.3 million holders of Firearm Owners identification cards. The measure’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Ron Stephens of Greenville, says he will keep trying to get the ban approved.
What is most interesting? There are no recorded votes on HB 7 the companion bill mentioned above. Who has become Co-Sponsor or Chief Co-Sponsors?

Statistics say that there are 1.3 million FOID card holders in Illinois. If each called their Legislator and thanked at least one of these Statesman who are trying to stand against the proposed invasion of privacy by the States Attorney General – can you imagine the effect?
Also – on March 10th, 2011 – Illinois Gun Owners will have their annual Lobby Day in Springfield, Illinois.
On Thursday March 10, 2011 all Illinois gun owners are invited to join in Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD) in Springfield .
The Illinois State Rifle Assoc. is partnering with local and internet organizations in Illinois to make this the biggest impression ever in Springfield. Please plan now to attend and join thousands of other Illinois gun owners.
Buses have been chartered, train schedules published – all that is needed is YOU to travel and meet up with IGOLD.
Change the Legislative process by doing something simple – showing up. Over 6,000 people rallied last year – be interesting to see if 13,000 could this year.

I lived in Illinois for about 2.5 years, from 1997 to 2000, and I still have my now-expired FOID card. I’ll guarantee you that if I was still there, I would be at that rally next Thursday.

This email was forwarded today:
“I am unhappy to report that HB0007 which would have protected FOID card holders’ information died in the Judiciary 1 Committee today. The upstate Democrat members of the committee voted against 1.3 million Illinoisans today. I whole heartedly disagree. I support the opinion of the State Police that releasing the names of who has a FOID card is dangerous. It’s an individual’s right to own a firearm and they should be afforded a level of privacy when making that decision. I am going to continue working to keep that information private.
Sincerely,
Rep. Cavaletto
107th District of Illinois”

This year is the year Illinois gun owners can make history. We have the chance to pass CCW over the Quinn veto! People tracking the vote line up in the House and Senate say the atmosphere and talk among legislators is that pro gun and CCW legislation has the most momentum than it has had in decades. We need all, and that is every gun owner to attend IGOLD this year. Our collective voices will be heard and we will succeed. CCW in Illinois isn’t any longer ‘if’ we get it, it’s now ‘when’ we get it! IGOLD is the largest rally in Springfield and the largest pro gun rally in the state of Ilinois, if not the entire U.S. This is our time to show the legislators our solidarity and firm commitment that we want our 2nd Amendment rights recognized by the Illinois government and passing anthing less than CCW legislation is not acceptable. Maybe with AG Madigan trying to force the ISP to release our FOID information, we might stir up thousands of other law abiding gun owners who will now join our effort. Don’t sit home on March 10th, come to IGOLD and join in a historic day. Go to http://www.igold.isra.org and sign up for one of the many statewide scheduled buses, or drive to Springfield with you friends. Whatever you have to do to get there do it. We deserve our God given right to protect our gift of life. I hope to see you in Springfield.
